Kathryn Riley

Professor Kathryn Riley is Director of Research at the London Centre for Leadership in Learning, Institute of Education, London.

Kathryn is an international scholar and a leading practitioner. She began her work in education as a volunteer teacher in Eritrea. She has taught in inner-city schools, held political office, been a national policy adviser and a local authority Chief Officer. She was first appointed as a Professor in 1993.

As part of her international work, Kathryn has worked with UNICEF, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the World Bank, where she headed its Effective Schools and Teachers Group. Her work has taken her to many countries, including Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, the Cayman Islands, Chile, China, Denmark, France, Guinea, Indonesia, Ireland, Jamaica, Macedonia, Senegal, Sweden, the USA, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Kathryn’s current work focuses on schools and communities. Her latest book, Leadership of Place: Stories from Schools in the US, UK & South Africa, will be published by Bloomsbury Publishers early in 2013.
